Pam Cowie Pam is committed to ensuring her students receive proper technical training and work to reach their full potential as dancers. Pam strives to share her passion and love for dance and performing. Pam spent her childhood in southern Ontario and trained for 15 years at the Peacock School of Dance in Fort Erie. She was trained and examined in Cecchetti ballet, and in tap and jazz with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA). After university, Pam settled in Atikokan and opened the Northern Lights School of Dance. Students from the ages of 4 to adult were prepared for shows and CDTA exams in tap, jazz and ballet. It was during these years that Pam began to develop her teaching credentials returning to southern Ontario to participate in teacher training sessions with CDTA and taking private classes with a number of teachers. Pam later moved to Thunder Bay and joined the Fay Gleeson Dance Centre where she has taught tap, jazz, lyrical and ballet. During this time Pam returned to southern Ontario for additional training and expanded on her professional designations. Pam is currently a full member in tap and jazz with both CDTA and the Performing Arts Educators of Canada (PAEC). She took her first dance class at age two and has been a dancer at the studio ever since, with this year being her 18th season. Outside of the dance studio, Ella is a student at Lakehead University where she is also involved in many clubs and activities. In her free time, Ella enjoys working, volunteering, spending time with friends and family, reading, golfing, and skiing. Ella has completed numerous ADAPT tap and jazz exams as well as CDTA ballet exams throughout the years. A few highlights in Ella’s dance career include attending Mather Dance Company’s Trans4m Dance Intensive in California, and dancing in Times Square, New York with her FGDC family on National Dance Day. Some of her greatest accomplishments include the Gold Cup for Choreography in 2022 (Lakehead Festival), the Destined to Succeed Award (Dance Canada Competition), and the Fort William Rotary Club Junior Ballet Plate (Lakehead Festival). She has been a teacher at FGDC for 30 years, and is a member of the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association, Stage Division. Throughout the years, Laureen attended the professional division, summer intensives at RWB and Quinte Ballet School, and competed and performed in Canada, the U.S. and Spain! Laureen is also a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and is a Special Education Facilitator. Amanda spent 15 years as a dancer for FGDC and has studied jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, hip-hop, and musical theatre. Throughout her years as a competitive dancer, Amanda took part in many local and international competitions. She was also able to learn and grow as a dancer through various workshops and conventions hosted by talented and well-known choreographers. These experiences always inspired her when she performed on stage as she was frequently recognized in her dances for her enthusiasm, stage presence, and storytelling. Tap dance especially held a special place in Amanda’s heart (and always will!) as it opened her to new opportunities of finding creative movement and musicality. When Amanda stepped into her first lyrical class, it ignited a new passion as she eagerly looked for ways to grow in the style. Amanda has been teaching at FGDC for 9 years and currently teaches lyrical and contemporary. She takes pride in getting to know her dancer’s strengths and encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zones. As a dance choreographer, Amanda has received many first-place standings and has been recognized by judges for creativity, storytelling, and connection. Amanda loves to challenge herself as a choreographer and encourage dancers to reach their full potential. From the moment she stepped into the studio, Melissa knew that dance was her passion. Throughout her many years as a dancer at FGDC, Melissa studied tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical and Irish. Competing internationally, nationally and locally, Melissa was awarded for her dance abilities specifically in lyrical, jazz and ballet. During her competitive years, Melissa took a great interest in expanding her dance knowledge and took part in many different dance conventions in Minneapolis, Chicago, Winnipeg, Niagara Falls and Los Angeles where she learned from some of the best choreographers in the business. Although she enjoys all genres of dance, ballet has a special place in her heart. She has pursued her passion for ballet and is recognized as a Licentiate Ballet Instructor with the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association (CDTA) and has taught ballet at FGDC for almost two decades. Through the CDTA, Melissa works with her students to perfect their ballet technique while completing examinations in the discipline. Along with teaching ballet, Melissa also teaches lyrical and contemporary which both allow her to step outside the box when it comes to creativity and choreography. As a dance choreographer, Melissa has received numerous first place standings, judges’ choice and choreography awards for what she likes to call her “artwork on stage”. Since childhood, she has trained technically in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and cabaret. In addition to experience as a competitive dancer, Liz has been a dance teacher for a number of years specializing in ballet, pointe, lyrical, and contemporary for competitive groups, solos, and duets. Her passion for dance extends to her community as she has had the opportunity to teach workshops, including ballet classes for the Thunder Bay Diving Club. Most recently, her choreography was featured in the 2022 Superior Theatre Festival. Her mother, Rhodella, owned a studio before handing it off to Miss Fay in 1958. She performed in her first recital at age three, and has been teaching and performing since high school. Since starting her career as a dance educator, she has prepared and supported students through CDTA and ADAPT exams, choreographed local productions and events like Moonlight Melodrama and Magnus Theatre productions, and helped welcome generations of local dancers (including her own three children) through the studio doors. Known for her quirky and original ideas, strong teaching ability and commitment to bringing out the best in each individual dancer, Cindy has been recognized and awarded for choreography at local, national and international competitions. While she’s been thrilled to see some of her former students go on to successful performing careers, Cindy believes that dance can play a crucial role in rounding out every individual student. Arts education, including dance, teaches expression and creativity, storytelling, discipline, time and spacial management and confidence — skills that have helped her students move on to careers as doctors, teachers, nurses, scientists and much more. Abby loves to perform in many styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, cabaret, hip hop and acro. She hopes to continue as a competitive dancer as long as she can. Abby’s love for the dance world pushed her to start teaching as early as the opportunity arose, and she has been hooked ever since. She currently teaches our preschool movement class, our young ballerinas and our acro class. Abby developed her love for teaching into a career by becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher, specializing in the primary/junior grades. She hopes her experience as an educator will help her to continuously grow as a dance instructor. Since childhood, she has trained technically in jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet, and cabaret. She discovered her passion when she was five and hasn’t looked back. Having trained in all disciplines, she truly loves them all. Her dance educator and choreography career began when she was eighteen and has included numerous awards and accolades both locally and in the USA. She loves to share her creativity with her students and watch them come to life on stage. She is a strong advocate for examination work and has completed examinations in R.A.D., C.D.T.A and is certified with B.A.T.D. and Acrobatic Arts. Maeghan is also a certified gymnastics coach and a certified Stott Pilates instructor. She believes in the power of progressions and safety in skills. Her goal is to provide dancers with the best instruction to make them the strongest dancer they can be. Maeghan works with all Fay Gleeson students, providing strength, flexibility and conditioning training for skill development and injury prevention. She offers acro skill development for any student interested in this dance form.
